Professor Kiesling (Carnegie Mellon University), with her colleague Dave Chassin, presented on the potential for transactive energy to create more efficient electricity usage and distribution. Their research focuses on leveraging the technological dynamism of distributed energy resources (DERs) with the goal of enabling decentralized coordination that makes better use of resources through eliminating the need for hierarchical control in traditional electric power networks.
