Liberal Political Economy

Empirical research on the consequences of economic and political freedom

This program explores the moral, cultural, and institutional foundations of a liberal economic order. It revisits classical political economy to understand how freedom, responsibility, and cooperation emerge within markets and civic institutions. At a time when liberalism faces global challenges, the program reexamines its roots to clarify why and how open societies prosper.

By integrating history of ideas with empirical research, the program investigates how entrepreneurship, property rights, and voluntary exchange can coexist with moral and civic obligations. It also explores the relationship between economic freedom and good governance, emphasizing how markets depend on the rule of law, ethical norms, and institutional pluralism.
