CGM hosted a book launch of Doing Global Fieldwork: A Social Scientist’s Guide to Mixed-Methods Research Far from Home (Columbia University Press, 2021). Author Jesse Driscoll (University of California β San Diego) presented the major themes of his book, a practical and honest how-to guide for new and seasoned researchers alike.
He discussed some of the major stages and key questions common to the research process including the abstract planning phase to the unavoidable stage where you are forced to change something in your research plan. Drawing on years of his own field research in political science across several countries, Driscoll drilled down to what he feels is the key to successful fieldwork: improvisational pluralism. Ana Arjona (Northwestern) provided remarks and comments on the book.
