Andrew Thompson

Student Research Associate

Andrew William Lockwood Thompson is currently pursuing a master’s degree in international Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, along with minors in Communication and Philosophy, from Florida Southern College (FSC) in his hometown of Lakeland, Florida. While at FSC, Andrew became a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society, and presented research on Ukraine at various academic conferences.

Andrew has been interested in American Constitutionalism since he was eleven years old, which later led him to develop a keen interest in comparative governance. His research areas include European politics, nationalism, and conflict resolution.

In addition to his passion for politics, Andrew is an avid electronic dance music composer. His involvement in the EDM scene has allowed him to explore the culture of the Benelux region, particularly that of the Netherlands. Inspired by this interest, he is currently studying the Dutch language and speaks it at an intermediate-high level.

Andrew aspires to have a career in policy writing and research, whether in a research center, government agency, or private business. He is open to flexibility in his career path and is eager to contribute his knowledge and insights to the Center for Governance and Markets while also gaining new skills and perspectives from his peers and mentors.
