Kamran Hakiman is a PhD student at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) at the University of Pittsburgh. His study concentrations are in international development, international political economy, and political behavior.
His primary research interest centers on the norms and beliefs required to maintain or realize inclusive (sometimes called democratic, but not limited to) forms of governance across populations, concentrating on micro-level dynamics at community or local level.
Prior to joining the PhD program at GSPIA, Kamran had led and conducted both qualitative and quantitative research across a wide array of contexts, looking at governance and policy interventions with normative goals, including Myanmar, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, and Sierra Leone.
He holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University and a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Maryville College.
