Student Research Associate

Nicholas Jude Walters is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA). He earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and English from Saint Vincent College, where he was an active member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science Honor Society, and Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society. In 2019, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his leadership and commitment to service. Walters has a strong foundation in American Constitutionalism, which he deepened through his politics degree. Through his politics degree, Walters developed a research paper titled “The Detrimental Impact of Corporate Influence on the Commercial US Rail Industry: An Exploratory Study,” which explores the issue of regulatory capture and its impact on the U.S. rail network.

Alongside his political science studies, Walters developed a deep interest in Elizabethan-era English literature, particularly the works of William Shakespeare and John Milton. He wrote a research paper titled “From Paradise Lost to Independence Found,” which examines how Milton’s Paradise Lost influenced Thomas Jefferson’s drafting of the Declaration of Independence. This interdisciplinary approach reflects Walters’ ability to blend political theory with literary analysis.

Walters aspires to pursue a career in policy writing, lobbying, or working with a think tank and ultimately aims to earn a PhD in his field. He is eager to contribute his knowledge and insights to the Center for Governance and Markets while gaining new skills and perspectives from his peers and mentors.
